Multiply pushes its local presence

Multiply, an online social networking website, recently launched its local spin.

Through Multiply Philippines and its partner ABS-CBN, enhanced and customized service now will be offered to their local audience.

“Our core focus is always going to be expanding and enhancing our feature set. Through our partnership with ABS-CBN, we might explore features that are more applicable to the Filipino market than they are in others,” said David Hersh, vice president of Business Development at Multiply.

ABS-CBN will handle the marketing and promotion transactions of Multiply in the Philippines, particularly in selling and representing Multiply in the country and encouraging Filipinos to use the popular social networking portal and its online and mobile services.

While looking at building more communities and providing advertising space in Multiply, both companies are looking at possibility of providing a payment facility system, which may help the local community with their buying and selling in Multiply.

“Very unique to the Philippines is the selling on Multiply. At this point, we might consider serving the needs of this community,” said Paolo Pineda, managing director of ABS-CBN Interactive.

Multiply’s personal and close-knit environment has placed it among the top 10 websites in the Philippines.

“We put emphasis on the trusted real-world relationships that creates this environment where people feel comfortable sharing their real life online,” said Multiply President and Founder Peter Pezaris.

In addition, this environment has given Multiply fewer problems regarding security issues, according to Hersh.

He said, “Our focus is on connecting you with people you actually know, either directly or through friends of friends, so it’s much safer. It’s not to say that we don’t have issues here and there, but we’ve got very few.”

The Philippines has 2.2 million registered users, out of the global 9 million users in Multiply. Majority of Multiply users come from the United States, the Philippines and Indonesia.
