Acer Gemstone Blue 6920

With the new Acer Gemstone Blue 6920, you don’t only get a full-function high-performance notebook PC, but a Blu-ray player too. This new trend in notebook functionality would probably make Blu-ray a standard in many regular-sized notebooks and Acer was among the first to deliver.

What is it: A full-sized notebook computer with Blu-ray technology, the latest in high-definition video format.

Who’s it for: Blu-ray first adapters who need a new notebook as well.

Wallet magnet: Blu-ray drive; unique touch-sensitive “CineDash” multimedia control panel on keyboard; bright and crisp 16-inch widescreen LCD; Intel Penryn CPU T8100 2.1 GHz and 3MB L2-Cache; fast Nvidia GeForce 9500M GS graphics with up to 512GB dedicated video memory; up to 4GB DDR2 memory; HDMI with HDCP support.

On second thought: Big and heavy; Blu-ray movies are still expensive; odd off-centered keyboard; weak battery life.

What’s in the box: Acer Gemstone Blue 6920 with built-in Blu-ray/DVD RW drive; Acer Express VoIP phone; CD software and manual; power adapter.

Tech Times’ verdict: With everything in it, this is the Big Mac of notebooks. Like the Sony PlayStation 3, the Blu-ray player for early adapters is definitely a bargain!
