Nine contemporary and classical films by Japan’s directors will be
featured in this year’s Eiga Sai.
Eiga Sai, an annual Japanese Film Festival
organized by the Japan Foundation in cooperation with the Embassy of
Japan, will mark the Philippines-Japan Friendship Month Celebration.
The films will showcase the social, cultural,
and psychological aspects of the people and society of Japan. The
screening is also expected to promote greater understanding and
friendship between Japan and the Philippines.
Eiga Sai 2008 will feature the films that
garnered positive cinema reviews and recently stirred the interest
of Japanese viewers such as We Shall Overcome, Linda Linda Linda,
Canary, Hanging Garden and A Stranger of Mine and Juvenile Jungle.
These films will be shown in three locations in
Metro Manila, namely, the Shangri-La Plaza Mall Cinema from July 8
to 13, Cultural Center of the Philippines from August 7 to 10 and UP
Film Center from August 11 to 16.
From July 26 to 27, three popular and
award-winning anime films, namely Chibi Maruko Chan, The Girl Who
Leapt Through Time and Doraemon Movie: Nobita’s Dinosaur will be
shown at the Shangri-La Plaza Mall Cinema 3 to coincide with J-pop
Anime Matsuri that will take place at the mall’s Grand Atrium.
A selected line-up of the movies will be also
seen at the Ayala Center in Cebu City from July 18 to 20 and at the
Gaisano South City Mall in Davao City from July 25 to 26. Entrance
to the Eiga Sai 2008 is free.
