Eiga Sai to highlight Japanese films

Nine contemporary and classical films by Japan’s directors will be featured in this year’s Eiga Sai.

Eiga Sai, an annual Japanese Film Festival organized by the Japan Foundation in cooperation with the Embassy of Japan, will mark the Philippines-Japan Friendship Month Celebration.

The films will showcase the social, cultural, and psychological aspects of the people and society of Japan. The screening is also expected to promote greater understanding and friendship between Japan and the Philippines.

Eiga Sai 2008 will feature the films that garnered positive cinema reviews and recently stirred the interest of Japanese viewers such as We Shall Overcome, Linda Linda Linda, Canary, Hanging Garden and A Stranger of Mine and Juvenile Jungle.

These films will be shown in three locations in Metro Manila, namely, the Shangri-La Plaza Mall Cinema from July 8 to 13, Cultural Center of the Philippines from August 7 to 10 and UP Film Center from August 11 to 16.

From July 26 to 27, three popular and award-winning anime films, namely Chibi Maruko Chan, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Doraemon Movie: Nobita’s Dinosaur will be shown at the Shangri-La Plaza Mall Cinema 3 to coincide with J-pop Anime Matsuri that will take place at the mall’s Grand Atrium.

A selected line-up of the movies will be also seen at the Ayala Center in Cebu City from July 18 to 20 and at the Gaisano South City Mall in Davao City from July 25 to 26. Entrance to the Eiga Sai 2008 is free.
