Soldiers find 3 camps abandoned by rebels

GOVERNMENT Troops found three New People’s Army (NPA) camps in two separate operations in Samar, the Army reported Wednesday.

An abandoned NPA camp was found on Sunday in Carolina Village, Matuguinao in Western Samar by combined military troops. It had three satellite posts, three kitchens, three comfort rooms, a bleacher and 41 bunkers that can accommodate more or less 60 NPA rebels.

Troops recovered a caliber .45 pistol, a caliber .38 revolver, an anti-personnel mine, two Motorola handheld radios, an ICOM battery charger, five gallons of rice, a box of sardines, acupuncture paraphernalia, four tapes and subversive documents.

Likewise, soldiers found two more abandoned camps in Victory Village, Las Navas in Northern Samar.

One camp had four makeshift huts that can accommodate more or less nine NPA rebels; while the second camp had 11 makeshift huts that can accommodate 16 people.

The discovery of the camps is part of the military’s continuous campaign against the communist rebels.
