Muslim peace advocates call
for resumption of talks with MILF

Cotabato City: The Agong Peace Network, which is a group of individuals dedicated to the attainment of a culture of peace in Mindanao yesterday called for the immediate resumption of the stalled peace talks of the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

Father Ed Pedregoza, chairman of Agong, cited the recent skirmishes that happened in Aleosan town as alarming and affecting the peace-building efforts in Mindanao.

Pedregoza said the skirmishes resulted in panic and fear among civilians forcing them to evacuate and leave their houses.

“We then appeal for the supremacy and full implementation of the national policy of the Philippine government on the peace process,” Pedregoza said.

Pedregoza, likewise, said they are urging all stakeholders in the spirit of transparency to conduct a parallel information drive on what has been agreed upon by both the MILF and GRP peace panels.

As this developed, the Agong chair said they acknowledge the Joint Coordinating Committee on the Cessations of Hostilities of both the GRP and MILF for their efforts and timely intervention to prevent the escalation of violence.

In particular, Pedregoza thanked Maj. Gen. Raymundo Ferrer, commander of the Sixth Infantry Division in Camp Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Shariff Kabunsuan for participating in the peace-building efforts in Mindanao.
