CLARK FREEPORT: “Improved tourism industry could
help businesses thrive amid global economic crisis.”
Thus said former tourism
secretary Mina Gabor in her speech of the 23rd General Membership
Meeting of the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PamCham)
held at Fontana Leisure Park here on Tuesday afternoon.
Gabor, now president of the
Philippine Small and Medium Development Foundation Inc. (Philsmed),
said that developing tourism would benefit small and medium
Enterprise (SME) in Central Luzon.
Rene Romero, president of PamCham
said he agreed with the sentiments of Gabor who is also a member of
Pasay City Chamber of Commerce.
“Ordinary businessmen and
people such as parlor owners, drivers and market vendors benefit
from strong tourism.”
Romero said the Diosdado
Macapagal International Airport “is the key to the full
development of Pampanga and the rest of the areas in Luzon.”
In the same PamCham event, the
partnership of the group and Globe Business was announced.
Having recognized the
significance of the SME sector as the backbone of our country’s
economy, one of the leading telecommunication companies had vowed to
provide business solutions to Micro, Small and Medium Entrepreneurs.
The services are anchored on the
Internet and broadband technology that is now the arena for business
promotion and networking.
Globe had taken telecommunication
to the next higher level and had now ventured into the realm of the
MSMEs, the PamCham statements added.
Gabor also said the Philsmed’s
vision is to elevate the role of SMEs in national development,
particularly by increasing its contribution towards our country’s
gross domestic product.
Romero, for his part, said the
PamCham’s mission is to promote the capability and ability of our
homegrown experts and resources that could eventually and equally
compete in both local and international market.
They said both organizations aim
to promote and prime SMEs in the local, national and global economy.
