MAPUA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY worked on a solid
defense in the final half to post a 76-65 win over University of
Perpetual Help Wednesday in the 84th National Collegiate Athletic
Association basketball tournament at the Cuneta Astrodome.
Pro-bound Kelvin de la Peña and
Neil Pascual scored back-to-back triples early in the third period
as the Cardinals notched their third win in four outings.
The Cardinals lost to the
defending titlist San Beda Red Lions, 56-85, on June 28.
“Parang gigil si Kelvin.Maybe
because he is the reigning MVP and he wanted to prove it so he
played a more aggressive game. But I told him just to calm down para
hindi mawala’yung poise niya,” said Mapua coach Leo Isaac.
Isaac said the win is a good
preparation for their game against St. Benilde on Friday before
taking their turn for a quiet long 10-day rest.
Ronald Reyes finished with 22
points while Raffy Ynion added 10 points for the Altas, who absorbed
their second loss against one win.
In the juniors division, the
Altalettes demolished the Robins 106-51 for their first win in three
games.
