Pregnancy in style

By Camille Rose A. Ignacio, Special to the Manila times

Here’s an interesting question. Can pregnant women still be fit and fashionable? Pregnancy is one of the most magical things experienced by women that until you see the side effects.

From bulging waistlines to extra weight that make you look like a beached whale pregnancy des pose some dilemmas particularly to the fashion conscious. For the longest time pregnancy and fashion went together like oil and vinegar, but nowadays that’s not such problem anymore. The solution is maternity clothes that are not only functional but also uber stylish.

The best example would be Hollywood which seems to be experiencing a baby boom. From Nichole Richie, Nicole Kidman, Demi Moore, Christina Aguilera, Courtney Thorn and last but not least Jennifer Lopez all of them have experienced the joy of motherhood sans the fashion disaster that followed. All of their recent red carpet appearances have them wearing stylish clothes that either accentuated or hid their bellies.

Fashionable maternity clothes are now available in the market, like Gingersnaps, which came up with new and up to date styles to suit the styles discriminating tastes of the modern mom. Maternity clothes now come in a variety of styles to suit a pregnant woman’s different moods. Moms to be can choose from a wide variety styles: Chic, trendy, sexy classic with a modern twist, and so on.

But more than just relying on these clothes moms can also use exercise to keep their bellies in tip top shape. Many women are too conscious about their figure, especially when they are pregnant, they think they are too plump and out of shape, that’s why many of them still prefer to be fit, but how? According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), “There are no data in humans to indicate that pregnant women should limit exercise intensity and lower target heart rates because of potential adverse effects.”

By exercising and wearing fashionable clothes even pregnant women can go out feeling like a star. Pregnancy is a beautiful thing why spoil it by looking like a whale. So for those moms out there remember, maternity fashion is not far from the latest fashion trends in the market, and being fit is not a barrier to be healthy so go and look for the best dress that will suit your taste and personality.
