ALLAN MANGAHAS and TG Guillermo combined for 31 points as Mapua
Institute of Technology prevailed over College of St. Benilde,
63-57, Friday in the 84th National Collegiate Athletic Association
basketball tournament at the Cuneta Astrodome.
Mangahas topscored with 17 points, 7 rebounds
and 3 assists while Guillermo chipped in 14 points as the Cardinals
stayed in solo third with four wins against one loss.
Mapua lost to defending champion San Beda
College, 56-85, on June 28.
“We have built enough leads early on, which
was our shield when St. Benilde rallied. I gave credit to the boys
who played well all throughout,” said Mapua coach Leo Isaac.
Mapua is taking a 10-day rest before facing 2007
runnerup Letran College on July 21.
Mangahas sank a 3-pointer to give the Cardinals
their biggest lead at 57-45, 5:32 remaining in the game.
In the lone juniors match, the Baby Blazers
demolished the Red Robins, 139-28.
