LETTER

Reduce E-VAT on medicines

About “Thank God for the oil crisis” (Rene Q. Bas Enthusiasms & Forebodings, July 11, 2008):

I couldn’t agree more that the difficulties we are going through right now could be a blessing in disguise as we as a people become more conscious of precious resources that we usually take for granted in times of plenty. A lasting effect of the current crisis could change the culture of wasteful spending and consumption; encourage recycling and thrift among us. I also agree that the E-VAT on oil products not be lifted for the many reasons already discussed. But what I would like to see is the lifting or reduction of (E-VAT) on other products which will benefit all, such as medicines, canned goods and perhaps meals in fast food restaurants where majority of the workers, students and the masa take their meals.

Just my ten cents worth.
