A RECENT survey that showed House Speaker Prospero Nograles’
plunging net satisfaction rating is misleading and unfair, a number
of the chamber’s members argued on Tuesday.
Representatives Rodolfo Valencia of Oriental
Mindoro and Rodito Albano of Isabela said the good leadership and
performance shown by Nograles in the past five months since he took
over as Speaker deserves a higher rating.
The survey conducted by The Center research firm
showed the Speaker’s net satisfaction rating dropped from -12
percent in March 2008 to -21 in a June 16 to 20, 2008 survey.
Nograles’ dwindling rating was blamed at the public’s negative
perception on the administration.
“It’s extremely unfair that the good
performance of the Speaker has not been highlighted in the survey.
He has managed to steer House members to adopt key reforms and pass
numerous vital bills in the past five months since he took over,”
said Valencia.
Valencia had reasons to say so since the package
of reform measures that Nograles initiated has earned the Congress a
net trust rating of +35, an indication that respondents are now
starting to out their trust on the House members.
“He has strongly advocated for measures that
would lower power rates, increase subsidy for the poor, address the
crisis on the prices of oil and rice, provide relief to delinquent
housing loans, and advance the welfare and interests of women and
youth, among others,” Valencia added.
