Just 5,286, or 9.99 percent, of the 52,928 examinees nationwide
passed the Career Service professional and sub-professional written
examinations given on March 9, the Civil Service Commission reported
in a press release Tuesday.
The total number includes 3,790 examinees who
passed the professional level, and 1,496 the sub-professional tests.
The Cordillera Administrative Region posted the
highest passing rate for both levels at 19.64 percent, or 262
passers out of the 1,334 examinees who took the examinations in
Baguio City. Of that number, 209 passed the professional test while
53 passed the sub-professional test. These figures, representing
19.39 percent and 20.7 percent of the number of examinees for each
level, also are the highest passing rates for the professional and
sub-professional levels, respectively, from among the regions.
Other regions with high passing rates in both
levels include Metro Manila (14.62 percent), Western Visayas (12.21
percent), Central Luzon (11.93 percent), Southern Tagalog (11.63
percent) and Southern Mindanao (11.24 percent), according to the
statement.
For the professional level, the top five regions
are Metro Manila (13.95 percent), Western Visayas (11.83 percent),
Southern Tagalog (11.03 percent), and Central Luzon (10.59 percent).
For the sub-professional level, topping the list are Southern
Mindanao (17.65 percent), Metro Manila (16.42 percent), Central
Luzon (16.11 percent) and Ilocos (14.02 percent).
The topnotcher in the professional level hails
from Cagayan Valley—Christine Battung, with 91.15 percent. The
sub-professional topnother is from the National Capital
Region—Nicole Victoria with 95.84 percent.
The rest of the top 10 in the professional level
are Maria Kristel Sarmiento of Metro Manila, 90.46 percent; Leiana
Joy Untalan of Metro Manila, 90.42 percent; Norman Farrish Datukon
of Davao Region, 90.39 percent; Jenirose Campo of Central Luzon,
90.19 percent; Joy Veronica Guillermo of Metro Manila, 90.16
percent; Cyrill Molina of Southern Tagalog, 90.08 percent; La Tessa
Fortaleza of Western Visayas, 90.05 percent; Jahans Gonzaga of Metro
Manila, 90.01 percent; and Evelyn Dumag of Metro Manila, 89.85
percent.
The rest of the top 10 in the sub-professional
level are Darlene Menese of Metro Manila got 93.87 percent; Ma.
Cheryl Cardenas of Zamboanga Peninsula, 93.18 percent; Janley
Patrona of Western Visayas, 93.11 percent; Ma. Josephine Therese
Emily Teves of Metro Manila, 93.1 percent; Eduard Joseff Alcantara
of Central Luzon, 92.36 percent; Josef Anthony Clemente of Metro
Manila, 92.13 percent; Farah Sevilla of the Cordillera
Administrative Region, 91.92 percent; Sheila Marie Magallanes of
Metro Manila, 91.86 percent; and Ruderina Suello of Metro Manila,
91.78 percent.
In both exam levels, the employment profile
revealed that those from the private sector and those from
government are almost equal at 1,105 and 1,003, respectively.
Unemployed passers totaled 2,908.
Those who passed the professional level
indicated that they prefer to go into accounting, project planning
and management, human resource development, management and audit
analysis, computer operations, research and report writing, and
public relations. In the sub-professional, those who passed are keen
on computer operation, word processing, data and document control,
bookkeeping, general clerical, typing, clerical accounting and
cashiering.
There were 3,425 female who passed, 1,850 male,
and 11 with invalid data on their gender. The passers were
relatively young, mostly from 18 to 24 years of age.
Those who passed the examinations must
personally claim their Certificate of Eligibility at the Civil
Service Commission Regional Office where their applications were
filed. In claiming their certificate, passers must present one 1”
x 1” I.D. picture with full name tag similar to the picture
attached in the picture seat plan during the examination; and any
valid identification card bearing the examinee’s name, picture,
and signature, and the name and signature of the issuing officer.

March 9, 2008, exam may be accessed at the Civil Service Commission
website, www.csc.gov.ph.
Those who failed may secure a copy of their
report of rating also through the same website, the statement said.
To secure a copy of the report of rating, an examinee must key in
his or her name, date of birth, examinee number, examination date
and examination type.
