Caviteños shine in int’l chess

Trece Martires City: Ayong S. Maliksi, governor of Cavite, recognized the efforts of Caviteños Roderick Nava, Vince Medina and Lovely Medina.

The three chess players delivered the goods for the country in international competitions.

Nava, who hails from Carmona, emerged as champion in the Open Category of the 12th Rakan Muda GACC World Inter-Varsity Chess Championship held at the University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Medina, a native of Barangay Aniban 2, Bacoor and a member of the Cavite Chess Team, won a gold medal in the Team Event Standard, two silver medals in Individual Standard and Team Rapid and a bronze medal in Blitz Team Event during his participation in the Ninth Asean Age-Group Chess Championships in Danang, Vietnam.

His sister, Lovelyn, a student at Far Eastern University, brought home three silver medals from the team events in the same competition.

Maliksi said these young achievers should be given due recognition to inspire others who want to succeed in their fields.
