THE National Economic and Development
Authority’s Regional Development Council (NEDA-RDC) has approved
the implementation of a multibillion-peso road project in Nueve
Ecija.
In a document, the NEDA-RDC endorsed the
implementation of the Japan Bank for International
Cooperation-assisted Road Bypass Project Phase 1 (Plaridel and
Cabanatuan) of the Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH).
The document said the implementation has
been significantly delayed due to right of way (ROW) acquisition
issues, and the review of the pre-qualification evaluation results
for the three packages.
It added that the DPWH is committed to complete
the project following the original scheme agreed at the time of
project appraisal, which was the simultaneous construction of
certain portion of the Plaridel and Cabanatuan Bypass.
“DPWH maintains that both bypass roads are
vital facilities to foster efficient mobility and development in the
areas,” the document read.
Costing about P3.07 billion, the project aims to
mitigate serious traffic congestion in critical urban sections in
the provinces of Bulacan and Nueva Ecija, especially the
municipalities of Plaridel and Baliuag in Bulacan and cities of
Cabanatuan and San Jose in Nueva Ecija.
