Transport group taps
Envirofit kit for tricycles

The Office of Transport Cooperatives (OTC), an attached agency of the Department of Transportation and Communications, announced it has formally tapped Envirofit Phils. Foundation Inc. to become one of the resource groups for its Tricycle Operations Management seminars and workshops. The seminars/workshops are intended for tricycle drivers and operators represented in various local government units.

Envirofit is a US-based nonprofit organization that distributes products and disseminates information to promote environment preservation and fuel econoamy, especially for users of two-stroke motorcycle engines. It first introduced its retrofit kit in Vigan City in 2005, and has since been promoting the retrofitting system in various parts of the country.

OTC said pilot cities like Vigan, Ilocos Sur and Puerto Princesa, Palawan, have initially issued notifications and enforcement of city ordinances that require two-stroke tricycles to either be retrofitted or replaced with four-stroke engines. After a successful seminar and demonstration in Bulacan, OTC said it is planning to conduct similar monthly seminars in other areas like Cagayan de Oro, Iloilo and Nueva Ecija.
