Isnajis can’t leave detention
to campaign for ARMM polls

Mayor Alvarez Isnaji of Indanan Sulu town and his son, Heider, cannot leave detention to campaign for Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) elections.

Philippine National Police chief Director Gen. Avelino Razon Jr. said the Isnajis, being the key suspects in the kidnapping of an ABS-CBN team, will stay at the Camp Crame Custodial Center.

“As suspects, they can’t go out of detention,” Razon told reporters. Mayor Isnaji is running for ARMM governor, while Haider, is running for a seat in the regional legislative assembly.

Razon said the two would not be allowed to leave jail to campaign, even if they make a request, since this would violate the law. Police have filed kidnapping for ransom charges against the Isnajis.

Government prosecutors are set to decide soon whether or not the charges should be filed before criminal courts, following weeks of preliminary investigation.
