Knights eye fifth win against Red Lions

ARCHRIVALS Letran College and San Beda College stake their clean slates when they face separate opponents Friday in the 84th NCAA basketball tournament at the Cuneta Astrodome.

The 17-time winner Knights are on top of the standings with four wins while the Red Lions, seeking their third straight title, are running second with three victories.

San Beda goes up against College of St. Benilde at 2 p.m. while Letran tackles University of Perpetual Help Dalta System Altas at 4 p.m.

In the high school division, the Red Cubs meet the Baby Blazers at 10 a.m. and the Squires face the Altalettes at 12 noon.

Letran Coach Louie Alas refused to predict a victory in their game against Perpetual, which is tied with San Sebastian College and Philippine Christian University for sixth at 1-4.

“We’ll just try to keep our clean slate,” said Alas, hoping that Dino Daa and Alvyn Cabonce will once again deliver.

Daa scored 26 points while Cabonce added 14 points as Letran downed San Sebastian 71-67 on Wednesday.

Though it was not Alas’ plan for top shooter RJ Jazul to slow down, it was a blessing in disguise to prepare the three-year veteran for the important game presumably against the Red Lions on July 30.

“Magandang bagay rin yun para yung ibang players naman ang magpakitang gilas,” added Alas.
