THE Supreme Court will be using the advances of
modern technology to improve efficiency in the judiciary, which is
parallel to its continuing effort to provide the poor more access to
justice.
The High Court will launch next
week the Case Management Information System, an automated system
that modernizes procedures and expedites processes that would place
the checking of the status of cases at the fingertips of everybody.
Chief Justice Reynato Puno said
Friday the system will allow the High Court, Court of Appeals,
Sandiganbayan, and Court of Tax Appeals to assume closer and better
control over the litigation process through a collaborative effort
to make the said courts function more effectively and efficiently.
According to Puno, the system
will be financed by the Rule of Law Effectiveness project which is
funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
Ambassador Kristie Kenney, in
behalf of the USAID, will formally turnover the system hardware and
software to the Chief Justice in simple ceremonies on Wednesday.
Puno explained the system is
aimed at reducing court delays and prevent case congestion, and
speed up the litigation process, while at the same time
strengthening judicial accountability and its integrity.
He added that it will enhance as
well the capacity of justices to manage caseload more efficiently
and in a more convenient manner, improve access to justice and
public access to relevant information on cases.
On top of those, the system aims
to improve the judiciary’s capacities for sound oversight
planning, monitoring and evaluation of court operations and
performance, and support better supervision of court operations.
The system also seeks to provide
support for justices, clerks of court and litigant parties in
monitoring the status of pending cases.
