CAREER 911
By Lloyd Luna
The promise

Dear Mr. Lloyd,I’m into business and I find it hard to take off especially in these hard economic times. I’ve read your blogs and other columns. At such a very young age, I must say that I’m impressed with your performance. It’s really inspiring for such a person like me. I’m writing to seek for some wisdom on how to win in these hard times. Thanks a lot!

Dear friend,

Hello there! I’m very happy to know that at some point, I was able to inspire you. I have several stories to help but today, I chose to share only one, which gives you some reasons why even the economy is good, it’s still hard to succeed in business.

It has been a while since I wrote my last online diary, which I call “blog.” That’s because I was preoccupied with too many stuffs in my hand and there’s just too many things to accomplish, especially now that we’re preparing for the renovation of our new office in Makati City.

Until now, I’m unable even to thank those people who have supported me in the recently held John Maxwell Leadership Simulcast at Philam Life Auditorium, which I produced. It was undeniably such a successful event with the theater filled with leaders came from different companies situated in different parts of the country.

It’s because some of my so-called “partners” said they will do it in my behalf. I wanted to object for one very simple reason: I invited these leaders and I think I owe them so much that I need to really send them an e-mail to personally show my gratitude to them. Still, I don’t know their reasons why they won’t allow me to do so. Nonetheless, my e-mail is still pending and I have to decide sooner or later.

But my experience as the producer of that simulcast cost me a lot, too. Just like who have been experiencing hard times, I also had a hard time working with some “big” guys in the motivation industry. By public perception, it’s so easy to conclude that all motivational speakers in the Philippines are great and they treat each other well. Well, the truth is not all. I became one of those the big guys stripped off an opportunity for whatever personal or business reason that they have.

And so my advice to you my dear friend is this: Promise your self, don’t promise anyone else, that you’ll continue to work on yourself silently. Continue to develop your skills and add more knowledge to your personal thought bank.

You’re surviving and many people out there are succeeding. And this happens despite economic health. But the secret lies in personal development. You need to commit to your plan. Don’t get distracted whatever happens outside your world. You have a very important world to focus on and that’s your own world—yourself.

Many have asked me and they keep asking me what really transpired before, during, and after the Maxwell event. Until know I didn’t want to disclose it because I didn’t want to badmouth other people. I just wanted to move on and promise myself that one day I’ll get back with a better self and much greater muscle to show more humility and understanding.

My mother taught me an important lesson on winning. And today, let me share that to you.

“You can get anything you want in a proper way. If, in case, you’re unable to get it, understand that someone else needs it more than you do. Those who can understand should understand.”

And that summarizes my thought for you this week. I hope to see you achieving the desires of your heart. It’s hard to succeed when you don’t know that even if you have a clear and clean intention, there will always be some people to block your way. But there’s always more than one way to arrive at a place. Find some other ways.

Your life coach,
