Filipino artists unite

The Agimat Project provides an online artists portal

The Philippines has a great surplus of artistry. For decades, we have been exporting it—through stage actors, ballet dancers, musicians, designers and painters who now perform and exhibit across the globe. However, there is still much more talent waiting to be discovered locally.

Those seeking Filipino artists need a singular portal with which to find their contact information and view their works. Artists themselves need a place where they can source each other’s skills for collaborative work (a theater director needing a choreographer, a rock band looking for a manager, etc.) This one portal can be a forum as well, a venue for artists to trade information and advice as well as a place for creative synergy.

Agimat: Sining at Kulturang Pinoy website will be launched on July 31 at the Access Point Bar, Scout Borromeo, Quezon City. The website seeks to be the ultimate source for artist information featuring both an artists’ database and a showcase of works in multimedia.

It is the latest phase in Agimat Project, a collaboration between Anino Design and artist advocacy group Dakila: Philippine Collective for Modern Heroism.

For the past three years, the Agimat Project focused on freely helping independent artists (indie musicians, indie filmmakers, indie visual artists, etc.) promote their works online. On their third anniversary, they are broadening reach to all kinds of artists, either mainstream or independent artists in the different fields of art.

The launch will kick off with a press conference of Anino Design, its partner organizations for the project and artists supporting the initiative. The launch will also feature various artistic performances and the screening of the 46-artist collaborative anthem Kaya Mong Maging Dakila music video.

The launch will also serve as a fund raising campaign for the medical needs of talented musician and well-loved colleague, Susan Fernandez, who is battling cancer.

A computer will be set up during the event to store portfolios, images and works that artists may submit for their database information.

Admission to the Agimat Project Launch is free. For details, call 927-0956, text 0921-9600352 and 0905-4292539, e-mail info@agimat.net and dakila.philippines@yahoo.com, or visit www.agimat.net.

For donations and contributions to help Susan Fernandez for her battle against cancer, you may also get in touch with Dakila.
