Strengthening regional security in Asia
|
|
Foreign ministers of the 10 member countries of the Association of
Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) are gathered in Singapore for talks
on regional security concerns. Tomorrow (July 24), they will attend
the main event, the Asian Regional Forum (ARF), together with
representatives of the United States, 15 other countries of Asia and
the European Union.
Old and new security issues will be discussed at
the ARF meeting with a view to easing tensions in countries
experiencing civil and border conflicts. Cooperation in disaster
preparedness and relief operations may also be taken up in the wake
of the worst cyclone disaster that hit Myanmar and the sinking of
the MV Princess of the Stars in the Philippines which resulted in
800 deaths.

Sex and life
|
|
A text message said that one shot of liquor reduces life by five
minutes but sex reportedly increases life by 10 minutes. Now, I
wonder no more why some politicians who love the bottle have long
life! One can be a drunkard and still live long if one has an active
sex life.

Media and the millenium development goals
|
|
Introductory
I am delighted that this conference of
Asia-Pacific media information and communication practitioners has
chosen to discuss how media could be mobilized to help achieve the
Millennium Development Goals (MDG for short)—that the United
Nations has set for the global community over the years 2001-2015.
