St. Benilde wins protest,
takes on San Sebastian

THE management committee upheld Thursday the protest filed by College of St. Benilde against San Beda College and forfeited the latter’s 74-51 win in the 84th National Collegiate Athletic Association basketball tournament on July 18 at the Cuneta Astrodome.

The decision gave San Beda its second loss in six games. The defending champion fell to Jose Rizal University (JRU), 74-79, Wednesday.

San Beda dropped into a tie for second with Mapua.

St. Benilde filed the protest over San Ekwe’s failure to wear the proper uniform during the game, which according to the MANCOM headed by Ding Lozano of host Mapua, is punishable by forfeiture.

Meanwhile, Mapua tries to keep its share of the second spot when it clashes with JRU Friday at the Cuneta Astrodome. St. Benilde faces San Sebastian College in the other game.
