Racing the open seas

The Open 60 racing yacht from the German fashion and lifestyle company HUGO BOSS has claimed second place in the Barcelona World Race. British skipper Alex Thomson and his Australian partner Andrew Cape crossed the finish line off Barcelona—after exactly 94 days, 17 hours, 34 minutes and 57 seconds.

During this non-stop round-the-world race, which began in November of last year, Thomson covered 500 nautical miles at an average speed of 20.8 knots in the HUGO BOSS, setting a new 24-hour distance record for her class. As such, the new vessel, which was launched in September, passed her first major test with flying colors.

Despite developing a fault with her rudder, which had to be repaired in New Zealand, the HUGO BOSS fought its way back into contention. However, although she made up ground rapidly, the leader—“Paprec Virbac 2”—held on to win by just under 300 nautical miles.

The yacht’s next major adventure will be the Vendée Globe which starts on November 9 off the French port of Les Sable-d’Olonne. In this event, Alex Thomson will be sailing the HUGO BOSS solo around the world.

HUGO BOSS extends agreement with Bayern Munich

HUGO BOSS AG and Germany’s top soccer club Bayern Munich have decided to renew their exclusive agreement for an extended period.

As the official clothing supplier to the club, which has been crowned German champions 20 times, HUGO BOSS has been outfitting its players and officials with business and travel wear since 2005. Beyond providing the BOSS Black suits that are worn at all official functions, the joint activities also include PR campaigns and photo shoots for well-known fashion and lifestyle magazines. A special relationship also exists with the HUGO BOSS Store on Munich’s Maximilianstrasse, which frequently hosts the players.

The Group’s soccer activities, which are rounded out by international partnerships with other top clubs such as Real Madrid CF and Urawa Red Diamonds, is a key feature of the HUGO BOSS sports sponsorship program. The liaison with Bayern Munich enjoys a special status within this portfolio. In addition to soccer, the company is active in the fields of motor sports, golf, tennis, boxing and sailing; HUGO BOSS also sponsors the ING New York City Marathon
