LICAB, Nueva Ecija: The provincial board of Nueva Ecija passed on
Thursday a resolution putting up a P100,000 fund for any information
that will lead to the arrest of the killer of a barangay chairman in
Licab town.
Board Member Rommel Padilla, chair of the
board’s peace and order committee, said the resolution which also
expresses sympathy to the family of David Villaroman, 39, barangay
captain of San Juan, Licab who was killed in an ambush in Victoria,
Tarlac last Saturday, was unanimously approved by the members.
Vice Gov. Edward Thomas Joson also approved the
resolution, he said. Licab town belongs to district one which
Padilla represents.
The Tarlac police reported that Villaroman was
driving a red multi-cab when fired at by a lone gunman at the
approach of the bridge in Barangay Mangolago, Victoria, Tarlac.
Investigation disclosed that the gunman alighted
from a white L-300 van and waited on the approach of a bridge to
wait for the unsuspecting village head. The suspect fired at
Villaroman at close range, investigation further revealed.
He died of two gunshot wounds from a 45-caliber
pistol, police reported.
”Sinuman ang may kagagawan ng karumal-dumal na
pagpatay kay Kapitan [Villaroman] ay dapat managot sa batas . . . sa
lalong madaling panahon [whoever is responsible for this dastardly
crime would be accountable to the law, at the soonest possible
time],” said Padilla.
Padilla belongs to Bagong Lakas ng Nueva Ecija (Balane)
a party led by the family of Joson which distributed to some village
heads the red multi-cab before the last gubernatorial elections.
Earlier, former Barangay chairman Melencio
Martinez of Bangad, Cabanatuan City was killed in an ambush staged
by motorcycle-riding men. Martinez was also driving a red multi-cab,
reportedly issued by former Vice Gov. Mariano Cristino Joson, when
killed.
Gov. Aurelio Umali, meanwhile, called on police
authorities to resolve the killings, including the case of former
Barangay Captain Melencio Martinez of Bangad, Cabanatuan City.
