Rex Book Store International is launching the 2008 Rex Book Store
Reader’s Theater Fluency Awards, which aims to recognize excellent
fluency standards among grade school students from private and
public schools in the Philippines. It will also serve to highlight
the application of Reader’s Theater teaching strategies and
showcase the performance of fluent, confident readers.
The awards program consists of three categories
– Beginner’s, Intermediate, and Advanced – covering grades 1
to 6. A school may enter one official group to represent it for each
category, provided the official representatives meet required
eligibility criteria. Each official representative group must choose
one of the Reader’s Theater scripts for a specific category/grade
level, and using the base materials provided in the Reader’s
Theater kit, perform the chosen script to a designated panel of
judges on a pre-determined judging date. The judges shall evaluate
each school’s performance using a set of judging criteria and
shortlist finalists for each category based on the tally of scores.
Deadline for submission of entries to the Rex
Book Store Reader’s Theater Fluency Awards is on August 1, 2008.
Shortlisted finalists will perform a common
contest piece pre-selected by the panel of judges during the finals.
The finals night and awarding will take place on September 13, 2008,
to coincide with the Manila International Book Fair, at SMX, Mall of
Asia. Cash prizes and trophies await winners and runners-up to be
chosen for each category. (Interested schools may contact Rex Book
Store International at telephone numbers 712-4101, 712-4106, and
712-4108, or visit www.rexpublishing.com for more details.)
