JOSE Rizal’s James Sena is one of the most underrated centers in
the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Naturally,
people noticed when he had a pair of monster games last week.
The 6’5” Sena was chosen by the NCAA Press
Corps as its Player of the Week after averaging 16 points and 10
rebounds in a pair of JRU victories, including one over two-time
defending champion San Beda.
“Our strength is our speed and outside
shooting,” said Jose Rizal coach Ariel Vanguardia, whose charges
now share second place with the Lions at 4-2.
“But everything emanates from how our big men
performs, that’s where James comes in,” he added.
In his game against the three-peat seeking
Lions, Sena muscled his way for 18 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and
issued 3 assists.
Sena, a Toyota Otis standout in the PBL, edged
teammate Mac Cagoco and San Sebastian beanpole Jason Ballesteros for
the honor.
Cagoco buried six triples against San Beda and
had a couple more in a 68-52 rout of a Kelvin de la Peña-less Mapua
Tech Friday while the 6’6” Ballesteros had 19 rebounds and 7
blocks in a 65-48 thrashing of St. Benilde.
