William Churchill once said, “We make a living by what we get, but
we make a life by what we give.” Jose Nazario Cruz makes a living
in a field that carries on the great work of exchanging wealth and
financial services. As vice-president of the Philippine Savings
Bank, Area Head of North Luzon, he has contributed financial support
for environmental advocacies and became a member of several
organizations such as Haribon Foundation and the Secular Franciscan
Third Order.
“We need to be more proactive if our mission
and vision for ourselves includes caring for the environment. If we
want less pollution, we can begin first with our own surroundings.
We must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big
difference, ignore the small daily differences we can make, like
segregating and recycling trash; and keeping our cars in good
condition. However, if we would like to have the kind of environment
we dream of, then we would need to support the planting of more
native trees which in turn preserves our water resources.”
Cruz, shares his passion for nature with his
wife Priscila and daughter, who are Bulakeños through and through.
Their belief in St. Francis of Assisi, who is known as the Patron
Saint of the Environment, have inspired the family to do activities
together for the environment.
For a successful professional, like himself,
Cruz’s merging of his personal life, work and support for
environmental conservation proves that small differences over time,
add up to big differences. We cannot foresee these until we are
willing to act to be part of the changes that we want to see for a
greener and healthier environment.
