Cinemalaya

About “deserving winners, big disappointments in Cinemalaya film festival” (Page 1 July 22, 2008):

It is heartening to see so many talented Filipinos making great films. Congratulations all you winners. And better luck next time to Ellen Ongkeko Marfil (Boses) and Paul Alexander Morales (Concerto), who I think should both have won.

I write this to criticize the government. It is no thanks to it that Filipinos are accomplishing so much with so little help from a government. Of course, the Cultural Center of the Philippines is government-owned and government-operated. But the pittance CCP spends on Cinemalaya is the very least government should do.
