LAND Bank of the Philippines said it has opened its doors to
malunggay growers through the Cooperative Livelihood Assistance
Program (CLAP) in Magdalena, Laguna.
Dolly Libunao, who works for the Development
Assistance Center Area 4B of Land Bank-Laguna, said the cooperative
should however prove to Landbank through a marketing program that
the project will generate income.
“If a cooperative cannot pass in a regular
lending program of LandBank, there is [the] advocacy program. All
they have to secure is a marketing program for the income generating
project, to assure the bank that they can pay,” Libunao said.
On June 24, the Enterprise and Sustainable
Livelihood Multipurpose Cooperative (ESLMPC), together with the
Laguna provincial government and the Sangguniang Kabataan, launched
the project titled “Miracle Malunggay: Kikita Ka Na, Lulusog Ka
Pa.”
Wilmer Lebria, chairman of ESLMPC, said the
program aims to propagate malunggay farming because of the
vegetable’s health and nutritional value, as well as its
agribusiness potential since coop members would gain additional
income.
Lebria said the project also aims to teach the
people of Laguna the importance of malunggay, particularly the
Sangguniang Kabataan and local governments (LGUs).
