The Department of Labor and Employment said the new
P12 to P20 minimum wage hike granted by the Regional Tripartite Wage
and Productivity Board in Region IV-A (Calabarzon) takes effect
today, June 1.
The pay hike will benefit
minimum-wage earners in Calabarzon, which covers Cavite, Laguna,
Batangas, Rizal and Quezon.
Officer-in-Charge Patricia
Hornilla of the National Wages and Productivity Commission on
Saturday said in a statement that the pay adjustment of P12 to P20
granted by the wage board will be applied based on area, category or
sector in the region.
She added that the increase
applies to the Growth Corridor Area, P16 to P20 per day; Emerging
Growth Area, P14 per day; and Resource-Based Area,
P12 per day.
Labor Secretary Marianito Roque
said the highest minimum wage in the region will now be P320 per
day.
Roque added that the wage board had noted the increases in the
prices of products and services brought about by rising world prices
in arriving at the new minimum wage.
Household or domestic helpers and persons in the personal
service of another, including family drivers, and workers of
Barangay Micro Business Enterprises are not entitled to the new
minimum wage. Upon application with the regional wage board, new business
enterprises, distressed establishments and exporters may also be
exempted from compliance with the new wage increase.
