PITTSBURGH: Vancouver Canucks defenseman Luc Bourdon
had purchased his new Suzuki motorcycle just days before he was
killed in a collision with a lorry, Canadian police said Friday.
According to police inspector
Roch Fortin, inexperience likely played a factor in the 21-year-old
Bourdon’s death on a rural highway Thursday.
“The impact took place in the
opposite lane,” Fortin said in Shippagan, New
Brunswick—Bourdon’s hometown. “The truck driver tried
everything in his power to avoid the accident.”
Bourdon, who received his
motorcycle license two weeks ago, had phoned a friend earlier this
week to tell him he bought a Suzuki GSX-R1000.
National Hockey League
Commissioner Gary Bettman said Friday that a moment of silence will
be held Saturday prior to Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals between
the Penguins and Detroit Red Wings.
“The National Hockey League
family grieves with the family, friends and teammates of Luc
Bourdon,” Bettman said. “We send heartfelt condolences to the
Vancouver Canucks’ organization and the community of Shippagan,
N.B.
