Sony Philippines Inc. expects to double its sales growth in the next
fiscal year amid the growing demand for high-definition laptops and
digital cameras.
At a press briefing, Toshiya Kagita, Sony
Philippines president, said the company registered a 10-percent
growth year-on-year with P4.4 billion in gross sales from April last
year to March this year.
The digital and video cameras segment accounted
for the bulk of Sony’s sales at around 30 percent.
Kagita said Sony will expand further its market
presence this year while focusing on three main products—Bravia
(LCD television), Cybershot and Vaio
Sony currently has 30-percent share in the
Philippines’ A and B markets.
The executive added he is optimistic about
Sony’s growth in the country this year despite slower consumer
spending.
He cited the consumers’ shift to computer
purchases as a necessity instead of buying cars, which is considered
a luxury.
Kagita said Sony will aggressively sell its
laptop notebooks, beginning with the opening of four Vaio notebook
computer stores in the country this year.
It recently opened its first Vaio store in
Megamall and will open one in Cebu and two more in Makati and Manila
.
Laptop notebooks only accounted for less than 10
percent of Sony’s total sales in the country, as the company
manufactures and sells only high-end notebooks.
“We only started these high-end products last
September,” Kagita said.
