DETAINED Sen. Antonio Trillanes 4th and several Magdaló soldiers
again had something working in their favor after the Makati Regional
Trial Court (RTC) moved the pre-trial of their rebellion charges to
July 7 instead of June 4.
In an open court hearing, Makati RTC Judge Elmo
granted the motion of the accused for the cancellation of the
scheduled hearing as a consequence of their yet another motion for
the production of documents filed on May 30.
It was earlier reported that Trillanes and the
17 co-accused, who took over the Manila Peninsula hotel last year,
had asked Alameda to reset the pre-trial to allow the prosecution to
produce pertinent documents against the accused that is needed in
the course of the trial.
Likewise, defense Lawyer Ernesto Francisco
justified the cancellation with their pending petition for the
issuance of a temporary restraining order and a writ of preliminary
injunction filed before the Court of Appeals.
On November 29, 2007, Trillanes and at least 20
other Magdaló officers and Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim walked out of a
Makati court hearing andmarched to the Manila Peninsula hotel where
they called for the resignation of President Gloria Arroyo.
Authorities, however, made them surrender after six hours.
