Suzuki launches new SX4 Sedan to compete in competitive saloon car segment

To complete its Alto subcompact, APV minivan, Vitara sport-ute and Swift hatchback model lineup, Suzuki Phils. Inc. on May 30 launched the SX4 Sedan to mark its entry to the country’s competitive sedan segment. Suzuki said its new model, which carries the carmaker’s “Show the Way Ahead” tagline, is a car that’s aimed at successful consumers who are “passionate about their work and have a tremendous zest for life.”

Suzuki, which is also known as a manufacturer of exhilirating motorcycles, said the SX4 Sedan was created by the same team that won worldwide acclaim with the Swift. The carmaker added that it has in recent years demonstrated its capability of building automobiles that boast of advanced engineering and unique designs, and that the SX4 Sedan is the latest proof of this as the car offers optimum driving performance and can definitely compete with its sedan counterparts sold in the local market.

The SX4 Sedan is imported from Japan as a compeletely built unit, Suzuki bared. The car is powered by the company’s M16A engine, which is a DOHC, 16-valve, 1.6-liter four-cylinder power plant that produces 102 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 145 Newton-meter of torque at 4,200 rpm. It is mated to a gate-type four-speed automatic transmission.

The car rolls on 15-inch alloy wheels that are wrapped in 195/65 R15 tires, and its suspension system is composed of McPherson struts with coil springs in front and torsion beam with coil springs in the rear. The SX4 turns by rack-and-pinion steering with speed-sensitive power assist—ensuring precise handling, Suzuki said—and stops by ventilated discs in front and leading and trailing drums at the rear.

According to Suzuki, the SX4 Sedan is dynamic looking yet elegant with its body-colored bumpers, door handles and side-view mirrors while halogen headlights and tinted glass further add to its upscale styling. Its interior has cloth reclining front bucket seats with head restraints, a driver’s footrest, tilting steering wheel that’s wrapped in leather and flaunts audio controls, lights-on and key-in-ignition reminders, low-fuel indicator, power door locks, remote keyless entry equipped with panic function, electric rear hatch release and easily accessible fuel door release.

Other premium features the SX4 Sedan has are automatic air-conditioning unit, an integrated audio system composed of a CD/MP3 player and eight speakers and variable-speed intermittent wipers.

Suzuki said passenger safety is likewise a strength of the new SX4 Sedan as it comes with numerous active and passive safety features. The car has a triangular A-pillar glass on each side to eliminate blind spots, four-wheel antilock braking system with brake assist, driver and front-passenger frontal air bags, three-point ELR seatbelts in all seats, child safety rear door locks and sturdy side-impact beams residing inside the doors.

Color options offered are Pearl White, Silky Silver Metallic, Pearl Nocturne Blue, Pearl Classy Red and Bluish Black. Suzuki pegs the SX4 Sedan’s introductory price at P814,000.
