Police insist otherwise on killing of RCBC suspects |
|
By Ira Karen Apanay, Senior
Reporter
The chief of the Commission on
Human Rights on Tuesday said the government watchdog will likely
stand by its initial finding that policemen summarily executed last
month suspected bank robbers.
Chairman Leila de Lima told a
media forum that the initial finding would be upheld on the strength
of written statements of 17 witnesses to the “rubout” of four
men who had robbed a branch of Rizal Commercial Banking Corp., or
RCBC, in Cabuyao, Laguna. The men were later killed in what police
said was a shootout in Tanauan City, Batangas. They and a few other
suspects were accused of killing 10 persons during the heist.
