CHR sticks to ‘rubout’ line

Police insist otherwise on killing of RCBC suspects

The chief of the Commission on Human Rights on Tuesday said the government watchdog will likely stand by its initial finding that policemen summarily executed last month suspected bank robbers.

Chairman Leila de Lima told a media forum that the initial finding would be upheld on the strength of written statements of 17 witnesses to the “rubout” of four men who had robbed a branch of Rizal Commercial Banking Corp., or RCBC, in Cabuyao, Laguna. The men were later killed in what police said was a shootout in Tanauan City, Batangas. They and a few other suspects were accused of killing 10 persons during the heist.
