THE national women’s dragon boat team will see action in the Macau
International tournament on June 8 in Nam Van Lake Nautical Centre
as part of their build up for the Asian Beach Games.
The team, which is composed of veteran and
newcomer paddlers, is scheduled to leave on Friday.
“We want to achieve something in this
tournament and at the same time scout our possible rivals in the
Asian Beach Games,” said Philippine Dragon Boat Federation
secretary-general Judith Hakim.
“Our current line up is combination of new
faces and veterans and this is a good chance to know their strength.
We also want to learn new strategies from other competitors,” she
added.
Leading the team are veterans Ivy Ablig and
Marietta Albas. Also competing are Nina Tonodim, Leonita Banlat,
Marinet Echayda, Josefa Deriada, Stephanie Kasim, Sanita Kasim,
Maridel Manahan, Joy Anne Enero, Alejandra Orolla, Aileen Padrones,
Rodita Poralan and Theresa Eralla. Head coach is Nestor Ilagan, who
will be assisted by Mari Annabel Tanrio.
“We also wanted to regain our supremacy as the
best paddlers in Southeast Asia that’s why we’re already
training our new athletes for the next year’s SEA Games,” said
Hakim.
