The Unyon ng mga Manunulat sa Pilipinas now accepts nominations for
the Gawad Pambansang Alagad ni Balagtas and Gawad Paz Marquez
Benitez for Outstanding Educators.
Qualified for the Gawad Balagtas are 1) living
Filipino writers who have contributed outstanding works in any
language currently used in the Philippines; 2) dedicated their lives
and talents to the development, propagation, and promotion of any
Philippine literature; 3) accepted and recognized by their peers or
by their leaders for their significant pioneering work or their
contribution to the enrichment of their particular literary form.
The latest Gawad Balagtas winners are Charlson
Ong (fiction in English), Jose. Munsayac (fiction in Filipino),
Joaquin Sy (translation and essay), and Prescillano Bermudez
(fiction in Iluko).
Outstanding educators in the field of literature
and communication are qualified to be nominated for the Gawad
Marquez Benitez. Roque Angel Ferriols, S.J. is the 2007 awardee.
Individuals, or literary groups or institutions
may nominate writers and teachers for the respective awards. Each
nomination must contain proper documentation or nominee’s literary
career, his biodata, and recent photo (passport size, four copies).
Nominations must be submitted on or before June
30, 2008, to Prof. Vim Nadera, Unyon ng mga Manunulat sa Pilipinas,
