HI! SOCIETY
By Becky Garcia
Ballroom dancing and
horseracing anyone?

CAN ballroom dancing and horseracing go together? Why not, when you are at the Manila Jockey Club of the San Lazaro Leisure Park and Casino in Carmona, Cavite, at the Chantilly Restaurant and Bar which is managed by famous chef Billy King. Ballroom dancing comes alive Saturday evenings when the races are ongoing. The restaurant overlooks the huge racing tracks and with floor to ceiling glass windows, you can actually watch the race while you are dancing. This is something unique plus the fact that there is a Casino upstairs and every now and then when the players want to relax they just go down and do some steps or two on the dancefloor. And if you are lucky, you can win a bet on your favorite horse or a windfall on the slot machines.

This was an excellent brainchild of MJC owner Atty. Boy Reyno who was proudly showing off to his guests the facilities of the complex. Together with his lovely wife Yolly, children King and Patrick, they welcomed guests to the launching of the Ballroom Night at the Chantilly. Billy King prepared a buffet of different specialties of the house, with a carving station of roast beef, selection of pastas, sausages, and a wide selection of desserts.

Dancing the Chachacha and Jive were beauty queen Gloria Diaz, with lover of her life Mike de Jesus and her sister Georgie, fun couple Dr. Jorge and May Neri and their golfing buddies. Also there were the group of Elsa de Gracia, and Babes Dominguez. Enjoying the DanceSport show of top-ranking DanceSport athletes were Saudi Arabian Ambassador Wali, SEA Games gold medalist Belinda Adora doing the mambo with MJC Food and Beverage Director Ramon Pimentel. DanceSport Director Gloria Alcala with husband Ony, Madame Oya Basaga, wife of Turkish Ambassador to the Philippines, Gina Haar and Buri Beach Resort owner Aida Leitner.

Ballroom dance enthusiasts from the Canyon Ranch Villas near the Leisure Park and from the neighboring Alabang, Laguna and Parañaque areas were there also to see the newly opened place. Not to worry if you come without a dancing partner, male and female dance instructors are there to lead you to the dancefloor. Once in a while, you might just see Hi Society on the dancefloor doing her signature lifts and dips. Check it out.
