JUSTICE Secretary Raul Gonzalez on Thursday said that
his recent confirmation made by the Commission on Appointments is a
just a result of his good performance.
“The confirmation only belied
the allegations they made against me, among them by party-list Rep.
Satur Ocampo that I was fabricating the cases filed before the
Justice department,” Gonzalez said. “Political motivation is not
a ground. It’s just pure competence and moral integrity.”
“In fact, I have no control
over cases filed with the Department of Justice—it’s [with] the
office of the chief state prosecutor. I only come into the picture
when there is an appeal,” he added.
Gonzalez, who was confirmed by
the Senate on Wednesday after being bypassed three times, also
stressed that confirmation does not guarantee one of being
untouchable.
“Whether you are confirmed or
not, you’ll be sacked if the President is not satisfied with your
performance,” the Justice chief said. “But still, it’s an
honor to be confirmed.”
