AFP Chief Yano affirms advocacy
My sincerest appreciation for the article by
Rene Q. Bas “Yano feeds hope for a decent RP military” (May 26,
2008, Enthusiasms and Forebodings) which highlighted my advocacy of
respect for human rights.
I would like to emphasize, especially now with
my recent designation as Chief of Staff, Armed Forces of the
Philippines, that primacy of respect for human rights holds
considerable weight for the AFP’s mission accomplishment. We give
credence to the image of the Filipino soldier who can judiciously
acknowledge the right of every human being and prove his distinct
capability of this through each undertaking he engages in.
As we endeavor to champion the cause of
upholding our country’s sovereignty, so shall the AFP set a high
value in perpetuating the dignity and honor of human life and of
human rights.
Alexander Yano
Lieutenant General
Chief of Staff
Armed Forces of the Philippines
