Seize the moment with KC Concepcion

By Michael Lim and Ricky Gallardo

KC Concepcion understands very well that in the entertainment business, one has to know how to seize every moment and opportunity that arises.
No doubt that this is her time, and she is doing everything to make sure that she strikes while the iron is steaming hot. After she came back from Paris where she finished her university degree, KC was immediately thrown into the frenzy of show business, starting with her own television special. She was also given the red carpet by ABS-CBN by way of a weekly acting showcase, which established the mega-daughter as a promising actress, but unfortunately, the ratings failed to impress the advertisers.

The next thing we heard, KC and Richard Gutierrez will topbill a love story to be partly shot in Greece, under the direction of cool, cool director Joyce Bernal. And just a few days ago, she launched her solo CD under the Sony-BMG music label.
Does she feel that everything is happening too fast? Reel Times had a casual heart-to-heart with the rising star during the launch of her CD billed 'a.k.a. Cassandra' at the Crowne Plaza Galleria in Ortigas.

KC: I guess everything happens for a reason, and in my case, I think things are happening at a comfortable pace. I know that for some, it might be too much too soon, but I'm definitely not complaining. The people I work with know my priorities and I've been vocal as to what will give me fulfillment as an artist.

Reel Times: You will soon start shooting your movie with Richard, how would you have time to promote your new CD?
KC: I know, but my team has already fixed my calendar. I've been warned that I will have unbelievably busy weeks ahead.

RT: Tell us about this new CD. How different will this be from the rest?

KC: It's still a mixture of originals and remakes, but it's the way these songs are arranged that will set them apart from the rest. I particularly am so amazed with the way we recorded the Depeche Mode hit of the 80's, you know, the song, "I Just can't get Enough." Galing!

RT: We heard that you're particularly interested in the alternative music scene.

KC: Most definitely. I like the whole concept of free-spirited sound. I like simplicity. I like straight-to-the-point lyrics. In this CD, I'm so happy that I have Raymund Marasigan producing two original compositions. There's also Angelo Villegas and Sammy Asuncion of Pinikipikan.

RT: Did you have a say in the choice of songs?
KC: Certainly. And I'm grateful to Sony-BMG for allowing me to have a free hand in the selection. I feel that it is important if the singer is fully convinced of the songs since he or she is the one lending his or her voice. I'm also very happy that my bosses allowed me to choose the types of music I want to sing, since I want this CD to be as personal as it can be.

RT: Has your mom listened to some of these songs?

KC: Oh yes, and I've asked her many times for inputs and I'm glad that I'm her daughter and I have a mom who is so musically gifted.

RT: After the launch of the CD, will a concert be in the horizon?

KC: I'd love to, but that has to wait until I finished the movie and my other commitments. In everything I do, I want proper planning, I don't want to rush things, even if sometimes I feel I am guilty of doing so. I guess you're right, it's called seize the moment.
