A happy teendom shindig

The Click Five packs the Big Dome full

By Perry Gil S. Mallari, Reporter

IF the jam-packed Araneta Coliseum of Friday night is any indication, then America’s preeminent power pop band The Click Five has won the hearts of Pinoys.

The Click Five, composed of members Kyle Patrick, Ethan Mentzer, Ben Romans, Joey Zehr and Joe Guese has stirred the Philippine teendom in full force filling the place up to the bleachers with their hit songs such as “Catch Your Wave,” “Just the Girl,” “Jenny,” “Happy Birthday” and “Empty.” Dental braces gleaming in the concert lights, teenyboppers dance their heart outs with occasional shrieks of “I love The Click Five!”

All The Click Five members were known as dapper dressers and the band as a whole carries a clean image. They named The Beatles as among their foremost influences and readily admitted that the music video of their first single “Just the Girl,” is a tribute to the Fabulous Four’s “A Hard Day’s Night.” The members of the band all attended the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston hence explaining their prowess in musical instrumentation.

Though criticized at times for churning out songs that nearly borders on the saccharine, The Click Five is definitely no boy band. The groups’ debut album Greetings from Imrie House had the guest appearances of such rock and roll icons as Paul Stanley of Kiss and Elliot Easton of the Cars. The boys can definitely play loud, but still, their concert is a kind of gig where you can safely bring along mom and dad with.

The success of the band’s three-day pocket promo concerts in October last year has prompted a bigger comeback performance on a larger venue.
