At an ASUS motherboard tech forum held at Computex Taiwan, ASUS shared its "secrets" behind maintaining the number one motherboard brand in the world. Guest speakers included Eric Mentzer, vice president of Intel's Mobility Group and general manager of Chipset and Graphics Development, and was chaired by Joe Hsieh, general manager of ASUS' Motherboard Business Unit.
Guest speaker Eric Mentzer brought new insight regarding the new launch of Intel's new chipset; and the ever strong bond between the ASUS and Intel - of how exciting the future will be for both companies, who have enjoyed a very friendly co-working relationship for the last 20 years.
Speaking on a breadth of forum topics, ASUS' speakers touched on new motherboard innovations like the ASUS EPU, Express Gate and true 16-phase power design; the stringent requirements for all ASUS products during quality tests; as well as the forward-thinking ID design that reflects ASUS' push for aesthetics that starts from the inside to the outlook. Not only will ASUS motherboards excel at providing top quality in terms of performance, they will also be highly reliable and provide great aesthetical value.
This informative and in-depth presentation was capped off with a 20-minute feedback session, where speakers answered some fielded questions regarding various ASUS technologies.
Forefront of motherboard technologies
ASUS' extensive R&D has developed various cutting-edge motherboard innovations to provide users with optimized energy savings and improved user experiences. These ground breaking technologies include the World's First System-wide Energy Saving Engine - the ASUS EPU-6 Engine; the exclusive Express Gate and the True 16-Phase power design to name a few.
New EPU-6 Engine for optimized system energy savings
The exclusive ASUS EPU-6 Engine intelligently detects loadings and automatically moderates the power of 6 major components of the PC during everyday computing. 75% of the time, the PC is engaged in computing tasks that don't require the maximum amount of power, and components continue to consume power unconsciously - resulting in power loss. This power loss is invisible - making power efficiency paramount to users. Focusing on 6 major components (the CPU, VGA card, memory, chipset, hard drives and CPU cooler/system fan), the ASUS EPU-6 Engine guards against this power loss through intelligent and automatic monitoring and moderation of the power supply - lowering heat and providing an exceptional 96%+ power efficiency (higher power efficiency means more energy saved). Available on the new P5Q series, the EPU-6 Engine can provide savings of up to almost a household's monthly electrical bill.
Real power for real savings with true 16-phase power design
ASUS' revolutionary True 16-phase power design utilizes true hardware power regulation to guarantee genuine power efficacy. During heavy CPU loadings, the intelligent power design automatically switches to 16-phases; and conversely during low processing periods, it uses a responsive 4-phase system to power the CPU - raising VRM efficiency. A power design that does not have auto phase switching will be unable to increase power efficiency; and lower VRM efficiency will still drop off the Output Current and result in wasted power and increased heat. The new True 16-phase design maintains an exceptional power efficiency of up to more than 96% - resulting in less power drawn, lower temperatures and excellent delivery of performance in comparison to competing models. With the True 16-phase power design, users will enjoy reduced operating temperatures and extended lifespans of key components such as the CPU and motherboard.
Fast access to Web, pictures and online music with new Express Gate
Time wasted on waiting for long loading times are a thing of the past. With the new ASUS Express Gate feature, users will be able to quickly access the Internet, view pictures or listen to online music just 5 secs* from bootup! Available on the ASUS P5Q series of motherboards, this unique innovation allows quick access to the Internet through popular applications like Instant Messengers, browsers and VoIP applications; and also picture viewing and online music - making it the perfect gateway for instant fun.
