There is something glamorous and sexy about the
Cannes Film Festival that the Oscars can never hope to have—the
excitement, class, and high-life of the French Riviera.
The Mediterranean coast, the azure sky, stately
palm trees, the gentle sun, luxurious yachts, formula race cars,
super beautiful people, plus of course, the trés romantique French
language.
Every year the Cannes Film Festival attracts
movie industry people and showbiz superstars from around the world
to celebrate, party, and seal business deals in this exclusive
playground of the very rich and famous. 2008 marks the 61styear of
the prestigious festival and this year was an exceptionally
spectacular one.
The red carpet at the Palais des Festivals has
seen a lot of action and fashion—every premiere night of each
entry film was a glorious spectacle by itself. As the stars made
their dramatic entrances and sashayed on the carpet, who will win
the much-coveted Palm d’or award didn’t seem to matter much. Who
looked stunning, who was wearing what, and who was jeweled by who
were what the onlookers, fashionistas, and paparazzi were more
interested in.
Trung Nghía, our very creative and extremely
talented Vietnamese photographer friend who covers international
events shares his wonderful Cannes photographs with us so we can see
the excitement and glamour of the 61st International Cannes Film
Festival. Would you believe that Trung and all the other
photographers had to be in tuxedos, too, to be able to take photos
of the red carpet events?
