RARING to stop water pollution
and illegal fishing in Laguna de Bay, the Parañaque city government
on Friday has sought for the strict implementation of the
Comprehensive Fishery Ordinance.
Also known as City Ordinance No.
06-02 (104), the regulation aims to protect the environment by
curbing illegal means of fishing and the dumping of wastes in Parañaque’s
waterways.
“We should be vigilant in
protecting our natural resources and environment, our river, sea and
other bodies of water against pollution and illegal fishing methods
because they badly harm to aquatic resources,” Mayor Florencio
Bernabe of Parañaque City said.
City Agriculture Officer Fe
Ferolino, who had been tasked to implement the provisions of the
regulation, said that fishing boat owners should have their vessels
registered with the city government for their mutual benefit.
The schedule of annual
registration and license fees are as follows: 4-cylinder motorized
fishing boat, P300; 16hp (horsepower) and above, P200; Below 16hp,
P100; Non-motorized boat, P50. Owners of bancas with only a 2-person
capacity need not pay any license fee, but are still required to
register their water crafts.
“The ordinance also provides
consumer welfare and public health safeguards, among them the
confiscation of illegally caught fish or those that have been soaked
in dye, food coloring or laced with formalin and the enforcement of
ban on ‘red tide’-affected shellfish,” the mayor added.
