DUE to consistent public demand, Mayor Alfredo Lim of
Manila on Friday approved the release of P84-million worth of school
uniform funding for the city’s 300,000 public elementary and high
school students.
“We want to ease the parents’
burden through these free uniforms,” Lim said after his meeting
with parents, students and teachers from all the six congressional
districts in Manila at the P. Guevarra Elementary School in San
Nicolas, Binondo.
The free uniform will consist of
two blouses and two skirts for girls, and two short pants or long
pants and two white polo shirts for boys.
Lim also warned the public
against the collection of any kind of fees in city schools and
assured the parents that anything that was collected or charged to
them will be returned to them in full.
Lim has already ordered the
immediate repair and cleaning up of classrooms and restrooms in all
city schools, and the inspection of dormitories in line with the
opening of classes next week.
“All restrooms in schools,
hospitals, health centers and public markets will be upgraded and
cleaned,” he said.
