CO-LEADER Red Bull Barako boosted its bid for an outright semifinal
berth in the Smart-PBA Fiesta Conference yesterday by signing up
Hapee’s Reed Juntilla.
Team manager Andy Jao was the man behind the
move to add the 6’2” Juntilla to the Barakos, who currently
share the lead with Coca-Cola and Air21 at 8-5 despite losing many
of their stars through trades.
“He’s definitely going to help us,” said
Red Bull coach Yeng Guiao. “Reed [Juntilla] is a big addition to
our backcourt, especially now that Junthy [Valenzuela] had moved to
Ginebra.”
Juntilla is the first player signed by Jao since
he was appointed team manager by the Energy Food & Drinks
franchise owned by George Chua before the start of the
import-reinforced tournament.
Red Bull expects a lot from Juntilla, just like
its other rookie, Jojo Duncil, who emerged as the game’s best
player when Red Bull held off the Gin Kings, 86-82, in their last
outing.
