FILIPINO and international dance artists meet at the
Wi-Fi Body 3 Independent Contemporary Dance Festival from June 12 to
15, at various venues of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP).
Highlights of this year’s Indie
dance festival include Independence; New Choreographers’
Competition; Black-box Initiative where performers inhabit worlds
beyond their usual parameters; Dance-on-Site where dance are
performed at various sites of the CCP; Emerging Talent Showcase; the
Wi-Fi Body Gala; a dance performance screening entitled Uncensored
Bodies; Plenary: Towards a Philippine Contemporary Dance Network
that calls on contemporary dance artists to exchange ideas and map
out the possibility of a national contemporary dance network; Dance
Journalism Forum by international dance critics; and Contemporary
Dance Workshops to be handled by choreographers Georgette Sanchez,
Raul Alcoseba, Herbert Alvarez and Ava Villanueva.
Participating in this event are
foreign dance artists and guests such as Japanese contemporary solo
dance artist Shigemi Kitamura performing “Short Performance
Collection” and Provisional Danza from Madrid performing “The
Sky in My Pocket.” Also performing are soloist Carmen Werner and
Alejandro Morata in Morata’s choreography.
The event is presented by the
World Dance Alliance-Philippines, Choreographers’ Network, CCP,
and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts in cooperation
with Japan Foundation Manila, Instituto Cervantes Manila, Embajada
de España en Filipinas, Ministerio de Cultura-Gobierno de España,
Alliance Francaise de Manille and Ayala Corporation.
