Belgian experimental theater hits the 2008 Singapore
Arts Festival

It’s postmodern, absurdist and
provocative. But its creator says it isn’t. A play about
stupidity, it might be smart-alecky as well. It gets the last laugh
at its audiences. But even this its director denies.
For All the Wrong Reasons, the
acclaimed play by Belgian director Lies Pauwels, held its Asian
premier at the Esplanade on May 30 as part of the 2008 Singapore
Arts Festival.
FILIPINO and international dance artists meet at the
Wi-Fi Body 3 Independent Contemporary Dance Festival from June 12 to
15, at various venues of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP).
Here at Singapore, where I am currently covering the
ongoing annual art festival slated to continue until June 22, we are
witnessing a government attempt to mandate a nation’s own cultural
identity.
A few months ago, doctors told him that he would
probably have no more than six months of good health left. Back
then, he had a 95-percent chance of dying.
