A twist to the hits of the 1980s by Kenyo

By Kayla Mariz Jurado, Special to The Manila Times

Radiosurfing, the debut album from Kenyo, comprises of 12 songs, 11 of which were hits from 1980s. The first track is an original composition of the band describing the whole album and the songs, entitled “Radio” that explains the reason why a revival of songs were made.

Two songs by Florante were transformed into a medley, the chorus of “Handog” incorporated at the last part of the song “Sana.” It became the precedent of the Radiosurfing—the integration of different hit songs in a new remake. There is also a unique song entitled “HBK” which stands for, “Hello,” “Boulevard” and “Knife.” It became a challenge for the band; how to turn cheesy songs of the 1980s into modern hip songs.

Radiosurfing is a great way for youngsters to appreciate the music of yesteryears. Vocalist Mcoy Fundales explains that he wanted the people who recorded the songs first and the composers like Florante and Rey Valera to be proud and delighted if they would hear their songs in the radio with a different kind of twist by Kenyo.
